Q: What is the Oklahoma Interior Design Coalition?
We are a collective group of design professionals representing ASID, IIDA and independent designers across the state of Oklahoma. We are a unified voice and presence at the Oklahoma capital working to strengthen the interior design profession.
Q: How does the Oklahoma title act protect the public?
A title act gives the public the option of hiring a qualified Interior Designer. By doing so, the public is ensured they are getting the most qualified professional – a professional that has established minimum competency, including education, experience and examination.
Q: How does registration protect the public’s health, safety and welfare?
An Interior Designer registered with the State of Oklahoma will have met strict requirements to earn this title. Completion of a qualified education in interior design, work experience, and successful completion of the NCIDQ exam ensures a design professional has the minimum understanding of fire codes, accessibility, ergonomics, etc.
Q: Is interior design language exclusionary?
No. The Oklahoma title legislation language is written to provide qualified interior designers the use of, and architects with the option of using, the title “Interior Designer” or the term “interior design” if they meet the qualifications and register. The title "Interior Designer" and the term "interior design" when describing services offered is restricted to those who are registered. It does not prevent anyone from providing interior design services. Thus it will not threaten the livelihood of anyone currently practicing interior design.
Q: Will registered Interior Designers have more liability for their work?
No. Any designer who enters into a contract for services or goods with a client accepts the liability for the agreement outlined in the document. The title legislation does not change that contractual responsibility.
